ARESiG CUSTOM FRAME PROJECT

’99 ARESBIKES, 私は、陽介(York Uno)の日本人が世界のコンテストで勝つためのバイクを作りたいというコンセプトからフレーム、パーツそして完成車の開発、販売をスタートした。それから17年もの歳月の間、ARESBIKESの製品は国内外で活躍する多くの有名なライダーのシグネーチャーフレームの生産を行い、数多くの勝利をライダーと手にした。

数年前からこの計画は自分自身の頭の中で膨らんでいた。
ライダーがトリックでオリジナリティーを表現するように、ARESBIKESとしてカスタムフレームを多くのライダーに供給することを実現したい。
それは、ONE AND ONLY..

自転車のフレームの製作には多くの時間や設備が必要となる。図面の製作からフレームを構成するパイプの手配、モールドによるカッティング、溶接、塗装など、中でもジオメトリーの違うそれぞれのフレーム用に長さや角度を精密にカットするためのモールドや、溶接するための治具をフレーム１本１本の為に製作するのには大きなコストが必要となる。

’99 ARESBIKES, I started with York Uno to develop and sell frames, parts and complete bikes from the concept that Japanese rider want to make a bike to win in the world contest. Seventeen years passed since then, ARESBIKES ‘products have produced a signature frame of many famous riders who are active not only domestically but also overseas, with a lot of victories with riders.

It has been swelling in my head for several years, I would like to realize the manufacturing of supplying the custom frame to the rider as ARESBIKES so that the rider could expresses the originality with a trick.
Many hours and equipment are required to manufacture a frame of the bicycle. Such as molds for precisely cutting in lengths and angles to fit each frame with different geometry, the processing of tubes from arranging drawings, the arrangement of tubes, cutting with mold, welding, painting etc., and jigs for welding cost large amount for each unique frame.

私がフレーム製作で絶大な信用を誇る、Tommy Wang。彼との出会いは、もう十数年も前にさかのぼる。新しいフロントフォークを開発することがきっかけだったが、通常はサイズを基に図面の作成から始まる作業を、彼が話し出したのはパイプ（チュービング）の話からだった。職人として溶接技術や仕上がりを気にすることも多いが、彼は自転車のフレームやフォークのパイプに対してストレスのかかる箇所に、より強い強度をもたせる為にパイプ自体をデザインし日本の鉄鋼会社に発注を行っている話から始まった。ユーザーレベルではフロントフォークのパイプの中がどのようになっているのか見る機会はないと思うが、ARESBIKESのフロントフォークはそれから後にフルートチューブと呼ばれる特殊な形状のパイプを使用することで強靭なフロントフォークを発表した。この技術はハンドルバーにも応用されハンドルエンドから覗くとギザギザなパイプを確認することができる。ARESiGのカスタムフレームにも同様にフレームのサイズに合わせ考え出された、バッテッドチューブが使用される。このように、Tommyは、単に受注品を生産している工場経営者でなく、職人であり、技術者である。

Tommy Wang, the founder of The Omni Cycle Inc., boasts tremendous credit in bicycle industry as a professional manufacturer in Cr-Mo products. The encounter with him dates back more than ten years ago. It was a chance to develop a new front fork, but usually it was from the story of a tubing that he talked about the work starting with the creation of drawings based on size. He often worries about welding technology and finish as a manufacturing craftsman but he designs the tubing itself to give a stronger strength to the bicycle frame down tube and stressful places against the fork tubes. At the user level I think there is no opportunity to see how the real structure of the front fork tube is, but the front fork of ARESBIKES then uses a tube of a special shape later called a flute tube, so that a strong front fork Announced. This technology is also applied to handlebars and you can see jagged tubes by looking in from the handle end. Similarly to the ARESiG’s custom frame, a new technology Omni 20/20 tubes are using, which is conceived according to the size of the frame. In this way, Tommy is not a only factory manager who is simply producing ordered items but a craftsman and a technician.

こんにちは、私はTommy Wangです。The Omni Cycle Inc.の創業者です。私たちは1989年以来、専門のロードバイクフォーク（ラグ＆ラグレス）メーカーとしてスタートしました。
我々は独自の軽量のロードバイクやMTBフォークを作りました。 1998年にBMXパーツの最初の生産を開始し、最初のオムニ製ハンドメイドフレームは2006年に生まれました。
私たちはCr-Mo素材製品を専門としていましたが、それは当社の優位性と専門性です。

Hi there, I’m Tommy Wang, the founder of The Omni Cycle Inc., we started as a professional road bike fork(lug & lugless) manufacturer since 1989,
after the light-weight trend of road bike, we made our own first MTB fork.  1998, we began our first production of BMX parts, and the very first Omni handmade frame was born in 2006.
We believed & specialized in Cr-Mo material products, it’s our advantage & specialty.  

自転車のフレームやパーツを作るきっかけになった事を教えてください。
When did you become interested making bike frame and parts.

私が1977年に高校を卒業したとき、私はジャイアントで最初の仕事を得ました。その後、私は自転車業界でより多くの経験を持ち、自転車は私の運命だと考えました。
自転車の創造とアップグレードは私の人生の課題です。
「私の人生では1つか2つのものを完全に達成するのに十分でしょう」これは私の人生の哲学であり、自転車は私の選択です。

When I graduated from high school in 1977, my got my first job in Giant, and after that I have more experiences in bicycle industry and considered that bicycle is my destiny,
the creation and upgrade of bicycle would be a task of my life.
“It would be enough to completely accomplish one or two things in my life”, this is my life philosophy, and bicycle is my choice.

Please have you let the insistence of the design of their own frame tubing.

私は20/20チューブと呼んでいました。これは20％軽く、通常のチューブよりも20％強いことを意味します。

I called it 20/20 tubing, which means it’s 20% lighter & 20% stronger than regular tubing.

Although you are supplying the frame to ARESBIKES from before, what do you think that to participate in the ARESiG?

It’s meaningful that you could offer great service to your customer that met his need in your business career, and that’s why I believed custom frame project is so important to end users,
everyone is unique in personality and also physical conditions, so it’s definitely necessary to have a custom frame plan for every rider who really cares about riding, and this is also the trend in the world.
“This frame is no longer be a merchandise, it’s gonna be your baby!”

最後に、あなたの製作するフレームを将来使用するライダーへメッセージをお願いします。
Finally, do you have a message to the rider to use in the future of your production to the frame.

長年の私の経験とテクニックを通して、カスタムフレームを作ることが本当に皆さんの役に立つことを願っています。それは単なるフレームではなく、あなたの人生の一部です。

Through my experiences and techniques for so many years, I hope that we could create a custom frame really belongs to each of you, it would not just a frame to you, it’s part of your life.

Custom Frame、ARESiGを発表し、KENTO FORKを製作した。次のプロダクツは、カスタムフレーム。ARESBIKESのWEBに公開するか、このポートフォリオにて紹介するかを悩んだが、このプロジェクトは自分自身の塊（カタマリ）でもあるので、私自身のポートフォリオとして書くことにした。

先ずは、製作にかなりの時間を要したヘッドチューブ。上記の写真は２種類のサイズで、100mm(Left),90mm(Center)、そしてスパニッシュサイズのボトムブラケット(Right)。ひとつひとつが、CNCで削りだされたスペシャルチィーブ。ボトムブラケットには、ARESIGと受注した日付をシリアルナンバーとして刻印した。
フレームのトップチューブやダウンチューブには指定がない限りデカールを貼るつもりがないので、ヘッドチューブには、ARESBIKESのアイコンを、これもまたCNCで削りこんでいる。

この、二つのヘッドチューブは、それぞれ違うジオメトリーでフレームとなるが、一本限りのフレームに万が一のことを考え数本の部材を用意している。もし、何らかのトラブルで、このヘッドチューブやフレームチュービングが使用できなくなっても、予備を準備していることで大幅な時間のロスを防ぐためである。

この、二枚の写真は、同じもののように見え、拡大された写真のように見えるが、実はシートステー、チェーンステーともに違うサイズで加工されている。もちろん外観では見えないパイプ内側の加工もそれぞれのサイズにあった処理が行われている。ドロップエンドのアクスルサイズを見てもらっても10mmと14mmと違うことが確認してもらえるのではないでしょうか。

これは、シートクランプが取り付けられたシートチューブですが、かなり短く見えます。

まだ、トップチューブとダウンチューブの製作ができておらず、図面の製作から数え基本納期の３ヶ月を超えてしまっているのですが、発注いただいた方から、初めてのプロジェクトであることの理解を受け、「楽しみにしています」との声を頂戴し感謝しています。

ライダーが、ライディングに夢を持つように、私は製品をライダーへ届けることに情熱があります。以前にも書きましたが、この夢や情熱をサポートしてくれる、ライダー、関係各社に心から感謝します。

昨日、届いた写真。フロントトライアングルの溶接を開始した。

先ず、ヘッドチューブ、トップチューブ、ダウンチューブとシートチューブをスポットに溶接する。一度で全てを溶接せずに、仮留めすることで、フレームの歪みをださないようにするため。

この状態で、フレームを治具にセットして各チュービングが適切な位置にあるかの確認作業を行います。

カスタムフレームの為、１本１本に要する工程は同じでも、パイプの準備から治具の設定まで全てが異なるので大変な作業と言える。

設計どおりであれば、再び溶接へと工程は進み、再度、治具にセットしてフレームを確認します。

ここまでに相当な時間が経過しましたが、溶接ができたのはフロントトライアングルのみでリアトライアングルは後日作業に入るということです。１本のフレームを製作するのに、私も今まで知らなかった工程も数多くあり、塗装されダンボールに入り届くフレームからは想像できない作業の数々です。
